                                                  Capuchin Monkey of The Rainforest

                                               I. The Unique Capuchin Monkey

In the beautiful rainforest of Honduras lives a cute and sometimes small monkey called the Capuchin monkey.Come with me on a journey to learn about the wonderful Capuchin monkey living in the canopy of the rainforest. You will love this animal once you learn about. They are lovable!

                                                II. Family of Capuchins

Capuchins have a family of monkeys. The family  they belong to are the New World Monkeys. Owl monkeys, titi monkeys, spider monkeys, saki monkeys, wooly monkeys, and many others are related to the Capuchin monkeys.

                                                 III. Their Looks

Capuchins have a lot of looks. Here they are. They usually have black or brown, white or beige hair on their face. 30 species of them have white or beige hair on their chest or on their upper arms. They are 17 inches (43 centimeters) in length, not including the tail. Their tails are 18 inches (46centimeteres) long.

                                             IV. Where Capuchins Live

Capuchin monkeys live in the rainforest of Honduras. Honduras is in South America. Capuchins don't migrate from their canopy in the high trees. The Capuchins are located in Central America, Honduras, northern Argentina, and Mexico.

                                             V. Diets

Capuchins eat all sorts of small animals, not big animals! They can't eat big animals because the big animals are bigger than the Capuchins. They eat by grabbing their food with their prehensile tails, they also grab with their  thumbs. They also eat bananas and other fruit that grow in the rain forest.

                                           VI. Hurendos Enemies

Capuchins don't have a lot of enemies. Most of their enemies are birds and bats. But there is one animal that's a real enemy of the Capuchin monkey. That is the Harpy Eagle. Harpy Eagles are tremendously huge and scary to the Capuchins!

                                           VII. Defending

Since Capuchins have enemies, they need to defend themselves. They defend themselves by climbing down to the forest floor, and  they pick up some rocks. After that, they go back up to the canopy and throw the rocks at their enemies!

                                         VIII. Reproducing

Capuchins start reproducing at 4 to 5 years of age. 160 days is how long until a Capuchin baby is born. They always give birth to one baby, not two. Baby Capuchins are just called " the young". Their life expectancy is just 40 years.

                                         IX. Human Relationships

Capuchins have relationships with a lot of animals. But not just animals. But humans too! Capuchin monkeys love humans because if they didn't they wouldn't live in captivity. Not a lot of Capuchins choose to live in captivity!

                                        X. Capuchin Population

There has been a lot of Capuchins. But because people are cutting down the rainforests, the population has been declined by 50%. The Capuchins aren't as endangered as jaguars and other animals are. People don't kill Capuchins, they keep them as pets. They actually aren't endangered. They aren't endangered because they reproduce very frequently. They have babies fast and all the time.

                                       XI. Sleeping Habits

Capuchins aren't nocturnal. They play during the day and aren't active at night. They sleep at night. During the day, they play, and find food. They also look for enemies.

                                      XII. Adapting To The Wild

Capuchins adapt to a lot of different places.  They adapt to their location by moving a lot. Not migrating but playing and swinging from vines and branches. After that they get hot so they are comfortable. When they want to be cold they don't play.

                                      XIII. Capuchin Habits

Capuchins have a lot of habits. But their main habits are running, jumping, and swinging from branches. That's what monkeys are for. Being very active.

                                     XIV. Interesting Characteristics

Capuchins don't have a lot of characteristics. But one of them are hyper. They run, jump, swing, and many others. They also try to get to the high, high parts of the trees no matter how high they are. They do that because they want to swing on those branches.

                                    XV. That's The Adventure

As you came with me on this adventure, I've been thinking if you got enough detail about the Capuchin monkey. Hopefully you did. The bad thing is is that the rainforest is getting cut down, the size of Pennsylvania every single day. The trees can be getting cut down right where the Capuchins live. I hope you help because next thing you know they will be extinct. Please save the Capuchin monkeys.

Hi Theresa! So far this is great! I have a couple suggestions and questions to help you out. In part II you say that the Capuchin Monkey is part of the New World Monkey family. What is the same for all New World Monkeys? What makes them different from other families of monkeys? In part IV you say they live in the canopy of the rain forest. It might be a good idea to describe the canopy in more detail. Wow! Capuchin Monkeys throw rocks at their enemies? Is that how they protect themselves from harpy eagles? I am a little confused about the "Human Relationship" sections. Do capuchin monkeys choose to live in captivity? Hmm..

If you have the answers to my questions, you can add that information right into your report! If not, you can come to the library and find out. Keep up the good work!
